Join BRION at Napa in Newport

Saturday, April 20, 2024, 5:30 pm at The Pendry Hotel, Newport Beach

We hope you’ll join us in supporting CureDuchenne at the Napa in Newport event, where BRION is a featured vintner. We’ll be hosting a table at the dinner and look forward to sharing the evening with you! We're also partnering with Chapellet and Alpha Omega Winery to create an exclusive combined auction lot.

Napa in Newport brings some of the most acclaimed Napa Valley vintners together under one roof to serve their finest vintages and offer their best wine experiences to Orange County’s top business leaders, influencers, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and wine connoisseurs.

Napa in Newport features a Grand Tasting, vintner hosted dining tables, an exquisite dinner with curated wine pairings by celebrity chef Charles Phan of the Slanted Door family of restaurants, and spectacular auction lots—all to benefit CureDuchenne, a leading nonprofit organization whose mission is to cure Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Duchenne is one of the most common and severe forms of muscular dystrophy. It affects roughly 1 in 5,000 male births, but sometimes affects females as well. In all cases, Duchenne is caused by mutations in the gene encoding for dystrophin, a protein that muscles need in order to work properly. It is 100% fatal.

Jess Lander, August 23, 2023

“Wise, who currently produces the Brion wines and hosts visitors inside a refurbished barn on the Sleeping Lady vineyard, plans to build a winery and hospitality space at the new property.”

“We have to learn those vines and those roots and figure out what we need to do to take them to another level, to push the farming to the extreme,” he said. “It’s a long game, for sure.”

Robb Report: 9 Outstanding Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons to Buy Right Now
Mike DeSimone and Jeff Jenssen, August 4, 2023

“Brion Wise is the name behind BRION and together with winemakers Julien Fayard, Mark Herold, and Massimo Monticelli this amazing team makes stunning wines in both Napa Valley and the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma Valley.

This 2019 Sonoma Cab is garnet ruby colored....The tannins are velvety soft and and flavors of black currant, black plum, and red raspberry intermingle seamlessly. There’s a pleasant splash of bright acidity in the back of the palate before the long, long finish.”

Cabernet Franc is the New Cabernet Sauvignon

“More U.S. winemakers seem to be touting Cabernet Franc (or  ‘Cab Franc,’ as it’s simply known), celebrating the varietal for what the Wine Folly website calls its ‘savory, bell pepper-like flavors, medium-high acidity and mouthwatering taste.’ BRION, a prestigious California producer of Cabernet Sauvignon, recently rolled its inaugural Cab Franc. Detert Family Vineyards, another well-regarded California label, is also gaining a reputation for its take on the varietal.”

Jess Lander, June 2022

“…Caldwell and Brion sought out Herrera and his highly specialized skills a decade ago. He was one of the few barrel makers working in the U.S. to have completed a rigorous master cooper program in France....The most serious master coopers go to France to train in the centuries-old tradition, forgoing modern machinery and building barrels by hand. The few who graduate are among the most highly regarded in their craft.”

Wine Enthusiast: Volcanic Hillsides and Historic Vineyards: Meet Napa’s Mayacamas Region

Wine Enthusiast: Volcanic Hillsides and Historic Vineyards: Meet Napa’s Mayacamas Region
Virginie Boone, June 2022

“…Julien Fayard makes the BRION and Julien Fayard Sleeping Lady Cabernets. “The vineyard gets a lot of morning light and morning cooling,” he says. “Sleeping Lady is closer to the mountain and closer to the Bay, slightly sloped to the east and not prone to sunburn or heat damage. The grapes get a little longer hangtime, the tannins are more complete. There’s a lot of minerality and complex density.”
